Operation Red Fox

The Finnish Detective Society’s Debut Crime Story of the Year Award in 2021!

A crisis with Russia leads to war on Finland’s turf. Operation Red Fox is underway. Jon Koivu, a young reservist who served in the Army Readiness Unit is sent with his unit to Gotland to help the Swedes around the time his girlfriend is about to give birth. Jon discovers that real war is much tougher than training at conscript service. Jon’s older sister Riina Koivu is also in active reserves. She sees the crisis escalate and fears for her brother’s life.

Riina’s husband Mikael serves as officer at the Headquarters and watches up close as Finland is forced to become the target of the enemy effects. Mikael slowly becomes aware of the gravity of the strikes targeting Finland. How far is the enemy willing to go?

The stakes become high in the Nordic countries, and Riina is eventually called to the scene. As the Jaeger unit leader, Riina prepares to defend Finland, while she worries about the safety of her child left at home.

“Until now, Ilkka Remes has almost held exclusive rights to imagined scenarios of Russia’s attacks on Finland. Now Reserve Officer Helena Immonen tops it in her debut novel that leaves nothing unclear.” Pertti Avola, Helsingin Sanomat

“That was hardcore. A story that pulls you in with its realistic background and structure, the people and their lives, the price of death and destruction. It’s like a literary battlefield 2020, with a citizen’s everyday life included.” Janne Riiheläinen, Communications Specialist
